The Perfect Silhouette: Apple Shaped

The Apple Shaped: Larger in the midsection
You can take off attention from your midsection with an open neckline, such as a v-neck or sweetheart neckline. Dresses that have soft draping will hide your tummy. Styles with asymmetrical ruching, beading or embellishments can also visually bring in your waist.
Things to avoid:
  • High necklines
  • Fitted belts
  • Off the shoulder
Things to find:
  • Wider straps balance out your figure
  • A sweetheart neckline straws attention upwards
  • A gathered waistline will make your stomach smaller

How To Find The Perfect Gown Silhouette

Here comes the bride!! It’s January 2015.. that means weddings are gonna be a-coming left and right! Now is the time to finalize touches for spring weddings, pick out bridesmaids and tuxedos for summer weddings, and start getting your gown for fall weddings! Let’s re-focus on finding the perfect dress.. last month we learned about the different types of dresses there are, now let’s look at which gowns for your body type!
The Pear Shaped: Larger in the hips
If you’re pear-shaped, de-emphasize your hips with a gown style that flares at or above your natural waist. Think: a classic A-line dress or a flowing gown with an empire waist. Interesting necklines and detailed bodices draw the eye upward, taking the focus off the lower half of your body.
Things to dodge:
  • Dropped waistlines
  • Slinky fabrics
  • Sheaths
  • Mermaid-style skirts
Above are perfect examples of something for pear-shaped women!! Keep us with on our website to see our next post about if you’re apple shaped!!

Color Highlight: Champagne

Champagne is becoming a popular color for weddings! There might be blush tones or other dark tones to go along with it, but nonetheless champagne can be a beautiful color on its own! It is easy to match with other colors due to its neutrality, as well as easy to find for decorations! It’s true.. champagne is dreamy..

Wedding Dress Focus: Fabrics

You probably notice this when trying on gowns: fabrics make the biggest difference. We know that not everyone is familiar with all the different types of fabrics, so we’ll try to break down the most common ones.
Charmeuse: A lightweight soft fabric, very satin-like to the touch
Chiffon: Delicate, sheer, and transparent — made from silk or rayon, with a soft finish; often layered because of its transparency
Illusion: A fine, sheer net fabric which is generally used on sleeves or necklines
Jersey: A very elastic knit, similar to certain t-shirt materials
Organza: Crisp and sheer like chiffon, with a stiffer texture similar in effect to tulle
Satin: A heavy, smooth fabric with a high sheen on one side
Silk: The most sought-after, cherished fiber for wedding dresses (and also the most expensive); there are several types with different textures: raw silk and silk mikado are just two examples
Taffeta: Crisp and smooth, with a slight rib
Tulle: Netting made of silk, nylon, or rayon; used primarily for skirts and veils (think ballerina tutus)

Focus on the Dress

This month, we’re focusing on wedding gowns! From style to beadwork and finishing touches, we want to help educate you! This week, let’s take a look at the major different silhouettes of wedding gowns.
First up, the Mermaid.

The mermaid and trumpet cut are very similar in that they become pretty fitted up to the thigh and hips area. The mermaid (pictured above) flares out almost instantly while the trumpet flares out more gradually. Trumpet gowns (pictured below) are a bit more fuller at the bottom in comparison to mermaid gowns.
The next style is the ball gown.
The ball gown has a structured bodice with a full skirt, much like a Disney princess’ gown.
The A-Line dress is next, and this one can be similar to the ball gown. It is fitted to the waistline, similar to the ball gown, and gently comes out. The skirt is shaped like a capital A!

The Sheath cut style (pictured below) is very popular for informal weddings. It flows down from neckline to the hem, while still bringing great definition to your waist. It can also be used as the reception dress.

What is your favorite style? Answer us in the comments below! Tune in next week as we go deeper into dresses!
